An app review series that tells it to you straight; should I download or delete? This week our Brody reviews geoDefense Swarm, the legendary thinking man’s game.
I completed the original geoDefense last year, whilst walking to work, travelling on the bus, ordering my coffee, drinking my coffee… needless to say, I was addicted. The sequel, geoDefense Swarm, is equally addictive too.
The gameplay
The original geoDefense and geoDefense Swarm share a lot in common. They’re both tower defence games, featuring smooth graphics and cool geometric designs.
Of course geoDefense Swarm adds some new weapons to the mix, but it also adds some few new features.
There’s a new hexagonal ‘grid’ which forces you to place your towers on tiles (not freely like the original game) and there are special tiles.
These special tiles can be your friend or foe – coming in the form of walls, health tiles, speed tiles, and no-build tiles.
Essentially, like any tower defence game, the aim of the game is to stop the enemies from a certain point on the map.
geoDefense starts off rather easy, and the final level ends in a difficult and chaotic show of colourful explosions.

The verdict
I found that I finished geoDefense Swarm a lot faster than the original geoDefense, but that’s likely due to the skills I acquired during the original game.
It’s fast-paced, and at times frustrating, but it’s also enjoyable and visually impressive. It’ll certainly keep you awake at night.
